Finding Peace in the Ever-Changing Flow of Life

Life is a continuous flow of experiences—joyful, sorrowful, uplifting, and challenging. However, one undeniable truth stands firm amidst it all: everything is temporary. Situations arise, emotions fluctuate, and circumstances evolve. When we deeply contemplate this impermanence, we unlock the key to inner peace.

10 Commandments to Be Happy

The challenges of life often appear overwhelming because we perceive them as permanent or defining. A setback in work, a strained relationship, or an unforeseen difficulty may seem like an endless storm. But when we step back and remind ourselves that this too shall pass, the weight of suffering begins to lift. Just as seasons change, so do hardships.

By embracing transience, we cultivate resilience. Instead of resisting change, we flow with it, knowing that every challenge carries a lesson, and every sorrow is followed by renewal. This perspective shifts our focus from fear to faith, from anxiety to acceptance. It allows us to detach from unnecessary worries and remain stable, no matter what unfolds.

Happiness is not found in controlling circumstances but in understanding their fleeting nature. When we stop clinging to pain and expectations, we make room for peace to settle within. The waves of life may continue to rise and fall, but when we embrace their impermanence, we remain steady—calm, content, and free. - From the desk of Nitima, who takes creative writing classes from children and adults.

Meditation tips & mindfullness

The Quest for Control in a Hectic World: The 21st century's relentless pace and constant demands can make us feel like mere passengers on the chaotic train of life. We often find ourselves reacting to situations rather than proactively guiding our own paths. The quest for control over our lives is a common aspiration. We yearn for a sense of serenity, clarity, and purpose. Rajyoga meditation, offered by the Brahma Kumaris, provides a path toward achieving this sense of control.

Rajyoga Meditation: An Introduction: Rajyoga meditation is a form of meditation that focuses on the mind's ability to connect with the divine. It is rooted in ancient Indian spiritual practices and has gained popularity in the modern world for its simplicity and effectiveness. The Brahma Kumaris, a worldwide spiritual organization, teaches Rajyoga meditation as part of its mission to promote peace, self-realization, and inner transformation. The profound effects of their morning meditation are very well documented by researchers & spiritual guides alike.

Mindfulness and Meditation: Mindfulness is a popular term in today's world, often associated with practices that help individuals stay present in the moment. Rajyoga meditation embodies this concept at its core. By engaging in meditation, individuals learn to be mindful, focusing their attention on the here and now. Through meditation, one can silence the noise of the external world and connect with the inner self, fostering a sense of control over their thoughts, emotions, and reactions.

The Spiritual Dimension: One of the unique aspects of Rajyoga meditation is its strong connection to spirituality. While some individuals may shy away from traditional religious practices, they may find solace in a more universal, spiritual approach. Rajyoga meditation doesn't align itself with a specific religious doctrine, making it an attractive option for people seeking an offbeat spiritual path. Spirituality, in this context, is about connecting with a higher consciousness and exploring the depths of one's inner self. It's a journey that allows individuals to find meaning, purpose, and inner peace. This sense of spirituality often brings a profound sense of control over one's life, as it allows individuals to tap into an inner source of strength and wisdom.

Online Learning: The Convenience of Meditation

The digital age has opened up countless opportunities for self-improvement and personal growth. Learning Rajyoga meditation online is a testament to the power of the internet in bringing transformational practices to people worldwide.

Online platforms offered by organizations like the Brahma Kumaris provide convenient, accessible ways to learn and practice Rajyoga meditation. These platforms offer a variety of resources, including guided meditation sessions, instructional videos, and a supportive community. This accessibility ensures that individuals can embark on their spiritual journey and regain control over their lives from the comfort of their own homes.

This emotional balance is key to maintaining control over one's responses to life's ups and downs.

2. Self-Awareness: Meditation, particularly Rajyoga meditation, encourages self-awareness. Through mindfulness and introspection, individuals can identify their strengths, weaknesses, and deeply rooted beliefs. This self-awareness allows them to make more informed choices and, consequently, have greater control over their lives.

3. Stress Reduction: In the quest for control, stress can be a formidable obstacle. Rajyoga meditation equips individuals with effective stress management techniques. As they learn to silence the mind and connect with the divine, the burdens of stress tend to lift, making way for a more serene and controlled existence.

Emotional Meditation Commentary

As you begin your meditation practice, allow yourself to settle into a comfortable position. Close your eyes, take a deep breath, and release any tension in your body. As you continue to breathe deeply, allow yourself to become aware of any emotions that may be present in your body.

Perhaps you feel sadness, anger, or anxiety. Whatever emotions arise, allow yourself to acknowledge them without judgment or resistance. Observe them with curiosity and compassion, recognizing that they are a natural and valid part of your human experience.

As you focus on your breath, allow each inhale to bring in a sense of calm and peace, and each exhale to release any negative or uncomfortable emotions. Feel the gentle rise and fall of your chest and stomach as you breathe, and allow yourself to sink deeper into a state of relaxation.

As you continue to breathe deeply, imagine yourself surrounded by a warm and loving energy. This energy is here to support and comfort you as you navigate your emotions. Feel the love and compassion emanating from this energy, and allow it to fill your heart and mind with a sense of comfort and ease.

As you sit in this space of love and support, imagine a peaceful scene. Perhaps you see yourself on a quiet beach, watching the waves roll in and out. Or maybe you envision yourself in a tranquil forest, surrounded by tall trees and chirping birds. Allow yourself to fully immerse in this scene, feeling the peace and tranquility of this place.

As you continue to breathe deeply, repeat a positive affirmation to yourself. Perhaps you say, "I am worthy of love and happiness," or "I trust in the universe to guide me through difficult times." Whatever affirmation resonates with you, repeat it to yourself with intention and conviction. Allow yourself to believe in the truth of these words, and let them fill your heart with hope and positivity.

As you sit in this space of peace and positivity, allow any remaining negative emotions to be released with each exhale. As you release these emotions, feel a sense of lightness and freedom in your body and mind. Allow yourself to fully let go of any negative thoughts or feelings that may be weighing you down.

As you continue to breathe and meditate, allow yourself to fully surrender to the present moment. Release any attachment to the past or future, and allow yourself to simply be here, now. Allow yourself to be fully present and engaged in your meditation practice, feeling a sense of calm and stillness in your body and mind.

As your meditation comes to an end, take a moment to thank yourself for showing up and committing to this practice. Recognize the importance of taking time to care for your emotional well-being, and acknowledge the strength and resilience that resides within you.

As you go about your day, remember to be kind and gentle with yourself. Emotions are a natural and valid part of the human experience, and it is okay to feel them. Remember that you are worthy of love and happiness, and that you have the inner strength to navigate difficult emotions with grace and resilience.

May you continue to cultivate emotional resilience and inner peace through your meditation practice.

September 5th marked the 45th anniversary of Voyager 1. Its most iconic image was of planet Earth from distant space called - The Pale Blue Dot - which was taken at a distance of 3.7 billion miles, from the far edge of the solar system.

This image is a reminder of how precious, delicate and ephemeral life is. Throughout history, humans have taken their lives for granted. We have always led with the conceited assumption that we are special, central, and significant; and each death has proven us wrong.

Our position in space is ordinary. Our existence is an endlessly repeated cycle of exercises in living & dying.

Seeing this image is a thing of calming beauty. All our joy and suffering… every creator and destroyer of civilization… every superstar, every politician, a person of influence is on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.

The truth brought out of this is the absolute futility and delusion of conceit: the fallacy of a superiority, a superior gender, of nationalism, narcissism and forgetting that we are just consciousness, each of us with a simple motto - live easy & live with inner peace

International Olympic Day

When thoughts are too heavy,
Feelings too numb,
When the heart is unsteady,
And the tears start to come,

Put on your running shoes.
Pace urself,
Let go with every stride.
The melody of footsteps,
The rhythm of breaths,
Let everything be synchronized into;
A calm stillness inside the head.

BE light as a feather.
Let yourself fly.
The world is a blur, but tonight
... You are alive.

Pale Blue Dot: Voyager Journey

It began with a small idea in the 1960s that mankind should send something in space. The journey was unpredictable, but the possibilities were unlimited. Over 7,900 people worked together on a single craft that was launched in 1977 to study the universe. Named 'Voyager', it did things no one predicted, found scenes no one expected, and has outlived its inventors.

On 14th February 1990, it took this photo of earth from elsewhere in the universe, at a distance of 6 billion kilometers. From that vantage point, Earth was just a point of light about a pixel in size. Our home, everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives, the place of your joy and suffering, everything there-on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.

This is how minuscule we are.

P.S. Its not much to see, but if you search 'pale blue dot' on Google, you can see some varieties of this photograph.

What to Do When Nothing Goes Right

What-To-Do-When-Nothing-Goes-Right

He had started to realize that it wasn’t going to happen for him.

He was in his fifties.
He was suffering from a disease that had led to muscle weakness and fatigue.
Hepatitis B had already finished his liver by 75 percent.
His new venture had collapsed. He had to mortgage his home to pay loans.
After decades of unparalleled success, his fortune had changed and he became bankrupt.

That was Amitabh Bachchan before he began his second innings in Bollywood and bounced back to a stage all of us are aware of. Today, he has an international following and is worth more than ₹ 3,000 Crores ($400 million).

Storms Don't Last Forever Offbeat Spirituality

We all get bad days. It is one thing to have a bad experience, but occasionally life takes us through entire stretches of time when nothing goes right.

Like a row of dominoes, one thing after another comes crashing down.

Overcoming difficult situations certainly takes time, but it also requires grit, self-awareness, and recognizing the moment when to take a break.

That’s what this post is about – finding out ways to pause, recover and get going again.

First thing first, tell your heart this happens to everyone. Accept it, even if you don’t see others going through it right now. You don’t know what their past has been or can say anything about what they are going through just by looking at their faces.

When factors leading to a tough situation are out of your control, you may feel completely singled out, like a victim. Don’t fall in that zone. It drains too much energy, making you grumpy and sometimes hopeless.

Trust me when I say – each of us stumbles. Those success stories that you read on social media are only a crux of all the struggles a person has faced in two lines. Everyone falls. Even the world champions. But the grace, the real struggle is getting back up, faster, stronger, and unshakable.

That’s what Amitabh Bachchan did.

But easy for someone like him to bounce back, right? After all, many rich, influential people know him.

The truth is that for someone like him, the failures are more difficult to overcome. Because of the mammoth amount of visibility he gets, his every downfall is also magnified 10 times. Not to count the shame, trolling and fall from grace. If someone like me fails, only my family would know; but if a celebrity fails, the whole world is there to scrutinize, give unsolicited advice and make snide remarks.

Setbacks allow us to put a little perspective in order and reignite passion to succeed. Here are a few strategies to help you stay positive and get back on track, no matter what happens.

Be ready, adapt to change

When-Nothing-Goes-Right-Go-Left Offbeat Spirituality

When things don’t go according to the plan, change the way to plan.

As we set meaningful goals, we tend to push ourselves full throttle. When nothing goes right, it can disrupt our momentum and throw us off course. This feels extremely discouraging, especially when you’ve already worked so hard toward your goal. One of the ways to destress is to use positive affirmations. On the days your hard work isn’t paying off, be ready to adapt to newer ways.

Ways to Practice Inner Peace

I’ve never seen the man raise his voice in his entire life. His parents never had any complaints, neither ever his co-workers. They always saw him as a quiet, peaceful individual who loved the outdoors and always saw the best in others. That man, a close friend, has awesome control over himself.  He doesn’t raise his voice or argue to prove his point, and never utter words that leave the listener wounded. In other words, he radiates ‘inner peace’.

Inner-Peace-Positive-Affirmations

Is it easy for some to have that kind of control over themselves? Or to never react, no matter how worse are the situations/people around them?

Inner peace is that state of psychological or spiritual calm that defines a being. It is important to our existence. It exhibits itself despite the potential presence of stressors such as the display of anger and frustration by others. It is the unmistaken ability to enjoy every moment of time, disinterest in judgment or actions of others, and total loss of inclination in getting into conflict.

Inner-Peace-Positive-Affirmations

Inner peace allows the mind to function at its optimal level and see the path clearly. Working on the principles of positive thinking, it helps in staying focused on the goals and reduces the chances of losing sight of what is important. Having inner peace is like having a compass; you know how would you react to a situation and trust your instincts to clear obstacles. A person with an intimate sense of inner peace sees difficulties as the way of becoming worthy of living life instead of getting threatened by them.

How A Person Can Be Spiritually Inclined?

If you are a person who’s alive & breathing, you are spiritual, and when you realize the consciousness that runs your body, you become spiritually inclined. It is not difficult. Being spiritually inclined also doesn’t that you do anything extra than what you are doing right now. It just implies that you become conscious of your thoughts, words, and actions; not do anything that harms others and are in a constant mode of being aware of your connection with the almighty power.

How Does A Spiritually Inclined Person Behave?

1.     Sensibly, obviously! A spiritually inclined person is in control of emotions, doesn’t let the situations or unpleasant circumstances empower his or her virtues. He/she tries to see good in everybody, doesn’t let pride get better of him or her.

2.     For the situations beyond control, a spiritually inclined person wouldn’t fret too much. He/she would learn to go with the flow, develop a positive attitude, and favor the problem-solving attitude.

Positive Affirmations To Start A Day
3. He would have a disciplined routine, with no exceptions. If you consider the life of yogis, one common habit that every one of them has is getting up early, mostly before sunrise. The scientific reason for it is that it allows you to set your internal body clock with the sun and fix up the tone of your day. Art of Living has dedicated a whole page on the virtues of being an early riser.

4. He would meditate in the morning and during the day, as and when time permits. For us mortal beings, the mind is a curious thing that keeps on running from one thought/feeling/action to another. So it becomes imperative to keep it busy in creating positive, purposeful, and powerful thoughts. If you need help in finding some positive affirmations, the following images can help you. They have the power to make you feel spiritually inclined while adding to self-worth and love for fellow human beings.

Positive Affirmations To Beat Stress

 5. He would make sure that the food he gives to the body is both nutritious and light. Fat-filled, junk or non-vegetarian food ignites the aggressiveness in the body. It is unnatural, creates obstacles in digestive ability, and gives rise to the diseases of obesity, heart ailments, high cholesterol, upset stomach, and other issues. Besides, no matter how much you cook and add spices to your food, it is still not cool to eat a dead body. And not to remind, the ruthless corona pandemic, which brought the whole world to a halt, began because some people chose to eat infected bats somewhere and passed on the virus to the entire globe.

6.      A spiritually inclined person would be gracious in accepting mistakes, will learn from the past, and try hard not to repeat them. If accepting mistakes is problematic for you, maybe this image below can help.

Habits of a spiritually inclined person:

Gets up before sunrise
Meditates daily
Keeps control over thoughts
Is a positive affirmer
Eats light vegetarian food
Accepts mistakes graciously

What Does Spiritually Inclined Does Not Mean?

That you are

Timid
Afraid
Avoider of responsibilities

Why is Meditation Important?

How do you feel when your opinion is rejected? I get dejected. Even if I don’t want to fall in the trap of emotional anger, I still do. Then what follows is a series of self-improvement talks with self. I sit in meditation, emerge that person in front of me and try to give some of my positive energy. From where I started 10 years back, there is a lot of difference in the way I handle a conflict. But there’s a long way to go. And that’s why meditation is important to me.

"The more elevated thoughts you create, the more your value increases."

Meditation has taught me self-control. It has given me the power not to spread negative emotions. If there’s a conflict, I try not to drag it beyond a point. Meditation for is a transformative power which makes living better. It is not just about sitting on a floor and concentrating hard on a single point, but being aware about everything. It is the most direct way to generate intimacy with your own thoughts, cultivating deeper experiences and an understanding of others’ behaviours. It transcends innate capacities to bring about an affair of love with the connection with self.

A study by Harvard researchers shows benefits of meditation against multitude of conditions both physical and mental. Common physical ailments like irritable bowel syndrome, anxiety, blood pressure, depression, chronic pain, and stress can be controlled. Numerous patients have shown significant improvements by engaging in meditation program, with some of the results becoming better than other existing treatments. The act of letting your inner self take a seat, ponder on thoughts that your mind generate and filtering out what gives you energy on a regular basis is a profound expression of self-care.

Thoughts for Meditation

From my experience of learning and teaching mindfulness, I am listing 15 thoughts for meditation. You can take a single thought and create your own version of feelings with it or combine a few together for a greater depth of your meditation experience.

  1. I am a soul, a point of light, an energy with infinite potential.
  2. I am a peaceful soul. Peace is my nature. It defines me.
  3. I will treat everyone with care, compassion and courtesy today. This is how I’ll make the world a better place today.
  4. My life is worth my peace. I will not let go of my peacefulness.
  5. I am in clouds, flying above the disturbances of everydays’ disturbances. This is my peaceful state and no one can move me from it. I will not allow myself to come down from this lightness.
  6. From these eyes, I see the beauty of this world. From colourful flowers to the sound of raindrops and twinkling stars in the sky – I see and feel everything.
  7. My existence is just for this moment. Let me savour this.
  8. Today is the day I will let go of my anger. I will not be irritated or disturbed.
  9. As I sit in the stillness, I am getting free from overthinking. I will not disturb anyone today or get disturbed by anyone.
  10. I will not react to anything today.
  11. I accept everyone as they are.
  12. I will think only useful thoughts today. I am light. I am peaceful.
  13. I will not give sorrow to anyone today, nor will I take it.
  14. I will speak with care. I will not hurt anyone with my words.
  15. My thoughts create my feelings. To save myself from useless and painful feelings, I’ll not think about useless or painful thoughts.

Some thoughts for meditation before I close this post. Meanwhile, if you want to read more, here’s my previous post on Finding Your Calm.
